THERE ARE TIMES YOU FEEL ALL ALONE.  THE BROTHERS & SISTERS IN CHRIST LOVE YOU BUT THEY ARE NOT THERE AT THE MOMENT WHEN YOU FEEL OVERWHELMED.

I have GREAT NEWS for you…….

YOU AND JESUS TOGETHER ARE A MAJORITY FOR VICTORY!

Gideon was about to fight a warfare against a massive army.  He had men ready to fight but God said that it was too many.  An option was given and 22,000 men went home, and only 10,000 remained.  The Lord told him that he still had too many men.  He was instructed to have the men get a drink and if they lapped up the water like a dog they were to be sent home.  WELL…..Gideon was left with only 300 men to fight a massive battle.  Of course the army of God won the battle even though totally outnumbered.

Judges 7:20b-21, and they cried, “The sword of the Lord and of Gideon!” 21 And every man stood in his place all around the camp; and the whole army ran and cried out and fled.

IT IS NOT THE AMOUNT WHO ARE WITH YOU, BUT THE POWER OF THE ONE WHO IS WITH YOU!

Rom. 8:31, What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?

WITH JESUS ON YOUR SIDE TODAY YOU CANNOT LOSE OR FAIL!

Is. 54:17, No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LordAnd their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord.

YOU AND JESUS ARE THE MAJORITY TODAY!

DO NOT FEAR – STAND IN FAITH KNOWING YOU HAVE THE VICTORY IN JESUS.

YOU ARE IMPORTANT!

Ps 139:13-14, For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. 14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.

God planned your life!  You are so important to the plan and purposes of God.

Without you, without this church, God’s plan is hindered and at times halted from saving lives.

You were born for this time in history!  You are not an accident!

Many times people look at themselves as insignificant, but that is the lie the devil wants you to accept.  YOU ARE SIGNIFICANT!  YOU ARE IMPORTANT TO THE PLAN OF HEAVEN!  GOD KNEW BEFORE HE SAID, “LET THERE BE”, THAT YOU WOULD BE HERE AT THIS SECOND IN THIS BUILDING BEING STRENGTHENED TO DO HIS WORK.

DON’T STOP THE JOURNEY

In every church, in every personal ministry, in every life there is a journey.

IT IS NOT HOW YOU START ONLY, IT IS HOW YOU FINISH.

The journey has great victories, hardships, disappointments, discouragement, confusion, weariness…..

BUT DO NOT GIVE UP – YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE IT!!!

2 Tim. 1:12-14, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.

I AM PERSUADED, CONVINCED, THE VISION IS NOT OVER.. THE JOURNEY, THE IMPACT, PLAN OF GOD IS GETTING READY TO EXPLODE IN THIS HOUSE.

I am convinced in the God I serve.

I’m convinced in the call of God.

I’m convinced in the vision.

God is not done, the journey is not over, get ready!!

1 Cor. 2:9, But as it is written:  “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”

2 Tim. 1:12,  For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.  NKJV

It is so easy as a GREAT LEADER to be tempted to get caught up in “MOMENTS”.  Moments are important, but when we live in moments we take our eyes off the journey.

The great successes in the Word of God walked the journey, not just the moments.

It was not just a journey for the men of the Old Testament, but also for the New Testament!

Paul

Acts 9 – He was fighting against Jesus, then he meets Jesus.  For 3 years he was in the desert being trained by Jesus.  When he was released into ministry he went on 3 missionary journeys.

2 Cor 11:24:29, Five different times the Jewish leaders gave me thirty-nine lashes. 25 Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked. Once I spent a whole night and a day adrift at sea. 26 I have traveled on many long journeys. I have faced danger from rivers and from robbers. I have faced danger from my own people, the Jews, as well as from the Gentiles. I have faced danger in the cities, in the deserts, and on the seas. And I have faced danger from men who claim to be believers but are not. 27 I have worked hard and long, enduring many sleepless nights. I have been hungry and thirsty and have often gone without food. I have shivered in the cold, without enough clothing to keep me warm. 28 Then, besides all this, I have the daily burden of my concern for all the churches. 29 Who is weak without my feeling that weakness? Who is led astray, and I do not burn with anger? NLT

It is the journey – not just the moments!

Jesus

Rev. 13:8 – Jesus is the Lamb slain before the foundations of the earth.  Before His journey ever began on this earth to redeem us, it had already begun before the foundations of the world.

He was born a virgin.

He died on the cross – It is finished.

He defeats the devil, sits at the right hand, sends the Spirit.

He had been rejected by his family, friends, nation, Father!

In Matt. 28:18-20 Jesus passes the batonNEVER GAVE UP!

IT IS THE JOURNEY – DON’T LOSE SIGHT OF THE VISION – DON’T YOU EVER GIVE UP!!

The great successes in the Word of God walked the journey, not just the moments.

God’s purposes are completed through the JOURNEY, not just the high points, or the low points, but the WHOLE.

Noah – Gen. 6 – build an ark!  What’s an ark?

  1. He was about 500 years old when he was given the directive, and he was to build a boat that was 450x75x45 – Never had rain fallen, he was rejected, he was mocked, and it took up to 75 years to build it.  NO DEWALT POWER TOOLS!
  2. If Noah had not been faithful and passionate about the vision then none of us would be here.  If he would have been living in the moments, then discouragement would have overtaken him and the vision would never have been completed.  We would all be dead!

Abram – Gen 12 – get out of your country!  To where?  I’ll show you…

  1. It was about 500 miles – with his entire family, flocks and servants.  It was a huge undertaking – BUT HE BEGAN THE JOURNEY!

Joseph – Gen 37 – The vision was given!  Sold into slavery, sold again, falsely accused, thrown in prison, forgotten, RAISED UP, delivered the entire nation of Israel.

MINISTRY IS A JOURNEY……..

We will cover more GIANTS and their JOURNEY’S in the next post!

God has given you a vision that is larger than you!

The key there is that it is LARGER THAN YOU AND I!

When something is larger it means that it is too big for one person to handle alone.  If the vision is small enough for you to handle it alone, it is not from God!

Every time God spoke vision it was larger than the one individual, and went beyond the one who the vision was given.  The cool part about God is that when He speaks vision it is for the ENTIRETY OF THE COMPLETED VISION, not just for the moment vision.

So vision must be:

1)    MUST BE IMPREGNATED BY GOD.

2)    MUST BE LARGER THAN YOU.

3)    MUST GO BEYOND YOUR LIFETIME.

4)    MUST HAVE HELP TO FULFILL THE VISION.

I can hear everyone shouting AMEN!!

BUT

Many visions remain small, not because it is God’s plan, but because the leader struggles with one of the four main components of success.

1)    It is not usually that God didn’t give them a vision.

2)    It is not that it is not larger than you.

3)    It is not that it could not go beyond your lifetime.

4)    It is USUALLY that leaders struggle with the HELP FACTOR!

The unspoken issue of INTIMIDATION!

  1. Many pastors and leaders are ok with help as long as the people are not as good as they are at the task.
  2. I have watched Pastors step on leaders who were more gifted in an area to keep them under thumb.
  3. Leaders – we must know who we are.  We must be confident is our calling.  Man did not call you, God called you to leadership.
  4. Dan. 2:20-21, He said, “Praise the name of God forever and ever, for he has all wisdom and power. 21 He controls the course of world events; he removes kings and sets up other kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the scholars.
  5. Intimidation is not of God.  It is fear.
  6. God is not the author of fear.  2 Tim. 1:7, For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. NLT  2 Tim 1:7 – fear – timidity – IN-TIMIDATED  1 John 4:18, Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.
  7. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH PEOPLE THAT ARE BETTER THAN YOU!
  8. BE BRAVE – BE CONFIDENT – SURROUND YOURSELF WITH STRENGTH – THEY WILL COMPLIMENT YOU AND THE VISION!

One of the easiest places to backslide is the MINISTRY!

We are surrounded by church, God’s people, the Bible, prayer, the office…….

We are always working for God and it is easy to forget the One we are working for, and His name is Jesus.

Jesus never told us in the ministry to marry His church, He told us to love Him; it is His job to marry His bride.  In ministry we can lose our priorities easily and slide into a lethargic, dry place in our walk with our Savior.

HOW DO WE KEEP FROM DRYNESS IN THE MINISTRY?  How do we help ourselves through this season of dryness?

Make sure your relationship with God is aligned properly.  You love Him more than ministry!

Be consistent with your personal devotions.  Mix it up a little by getting up earlier, or doing your devotions late at night.

Read the Word differently!

1) Use different versions.  2) Have a commentary nearby.  3) Read a chapter and ask yourself what you will pull out of it.  4) Study the Word.  5) Do a word study.

 Prayer!

1) Walk and pray.  2) Go somewhere different to pray.  3) Worship and wait instead of asking.

 Read a book!

1) Crazy Love – Francis Chan.  2) Smith Wigglesworth books.  3) Jesus Manifesto – Leonard Sweet.  4) The God Chasers – Tommy Tenney.  5) Leonard Ravenhill.

Come to church with expectation!  Do not get into the “MINISTRY MENTALITY” of “HERE WE GO AGAIN”.

THIS IS A NEW DAY – STAY REFRESHED – STAY RENEWED – STAY IN LOVE WITH JESUS – LOVE HIM FIRST!

In my 25 years of ministry this is one of the main intersections that I have seen such horrible crashes occur at in leaders.

Going into ministry there is such a sense of purity of heart to help, build, empower, strengthen people, to love them and invest so they can aspire to God’s purposes.

THEN IT HAPPENS!

Someone in your ministry you love and invested mass amounts of time with, TURNS ON YOU!  They start saying how evil you are.  They do not recognize the love, the care, the hours, they now only spew venom at you.  Your head is spinning!  Your sleep is fleeting!  You strive to understand how one minute you could be their loving pastor, and now you are Satan’s tool.  The emotions, the rejection, the broken heart are what is rushing through your vessel.

I want to say this with all love, GET USED TO IT!

HURT, REJECTION, WOUNDS, BETRAYAL is part of the rest of your life when you choose to lead God’s people.

Jesus was rejected by His family, nation, friends………

SO THE ISSUE IS NOT IF IT COMES, BUT WHAT TO DO TO KEEP YOURSELF FROM RESENTMENT AND BITTERNESS WHEN IT COMES.

HOW DO WE NOT GET BITTER? Heb 12:15b, lest any root of bitterness spring up to trouble you, and thereby many be defiled.

Learn to FORGET!!

What?

I have made a choice to become forgetful!  When the wound comes (not if), when the betrayal happens, it hurts, but I made a decision that I will not remember it, even if they do not ask forgiveness.

IT IS A CHOICE, A DECISION.  This will keep your heart from getting hard toward people.

I choose not to get bitter!

I choose not to have resentment!

 Go to PRAYER

James 1:21, Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

Ask Jesus to heal your soul.  Do not allow yourself to wallow in the wound.  It is not your right to wallow, you gave up that right to build resentment when you chose the ministry.

He will heal you, and when you see the person or persons, or they return to the church, then you do not treat them better or worse, you just love them like Jesus loves you.

THIS IS A SERIOUS INTERSECTION FOR YOUR MINISTRY.  CHOOSE TO NEVER HOLD RESENTMENT AND BITTERNESS WHEN THE JUDAS KISS COMES!

how can I forgive

If you are in the ministry for any period of time you will have these questions ring through your mind!

“IS THIS WORTH ALL THE PAIN?”

“IS THIS REALLY WORTH IT?”

You need to know that you are not the only one who has that race through their thoughts.  These are normal questions.

I have been married 23 years to my first wife, and we have a GREAT marriage, yet there are days that I know my thoughts are, “Oh my goodness, what did I get myself into?”, and I know she has thought it.

THE THOUGHT IS NOT THE PROBLEM, IT IS WHAT YOU DO WITH THE THOUGHT!

A little saying from the old days goes like this, “You will have birds fly around your head, but you do not have to let them nest in your hair.”

Sin begins with a thought (James 1:14-15).

We are told to take into captivity our thoughts that are contrary to the Word (2 Cor. 10:5).

When, not if, that thought races through your mind, you must arrest it and not allow it to take root.  It has no right in your mind.  Just like divorce is not an option, this thought is not an option!  Kick it out!!

One soul, one life, one saved, one healed, one restored, just one, is worth it all!

“And Jesus answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel’s, who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time – houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions – and in the age to come, eternal life’,” (Mark 10:29,30, New King James).

IT IS WORTH IT TO SEE LIVES CHANGE!

John 15:13, Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

THE HEART OF HEAVEN!

GOD IS A STRATEGIST!

Inertia demands leaders to be accidental in accomplishing great things, but there is one thing for sure, those who have accomplished life-transforming victories did not do it by accident.

When God created the earth He did it with clarity of design. One day built upon the next to support the existence, and perpetuation of His creation.

God strategized our REDEMPTION!

Gal. 3:24-25, Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.
John 1:29, The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
Rev. 13:8, All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

God strategized our LIVES!

Jer. 1:5, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you;
Before you were born I sanctified you;
I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”
Ps. 37:23, The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord,
And He delights in his way.
Prov. 3:5-6, Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.

WE MUST STRATEGIZE THE VISION JESUS GAVE US!

Daily – It is so important not to allow inertia to infiltrate our lives on a daily basis. When inertia takes over we literally accomplish nothing in a day. The day will just happen, and at the end of the 24 hours it will be wasted. Without clarity and aim, like our Father has, then we will do nothing of eternal value. Father already has your day planned, ask Him what He desires.

Long Term – As you pray, what is the Lord putting on your heart for destiny? You will never accomplish anything long term unless you are willing to strategize for the daily items. It is so easy to shout, “I’ve got the vision for the future” BUT, if you never become intentional and strategic then it will never come to fruition.

Pastor, God is not accidental, and neither should His GREAT LEADERS be!
